Autumn Lip Hues

With Autumn comes the sudden change in the colors around us.
The swipe of a new shade of lipstick may be just what’s needed to get into the autumnal mood.

I don’t know what it is about this year, but I’ve been feeling quite bold with my makeup. Though I’ve always loved a classic red lip I’ve never been able to build the courage to wear it out without feeling way overdressed. Reds are fun though, as are berries. The first jump into wearing them I felt uncomfortable and as the day progressed I started thinking, “You know what, I like bold lips. As long as I feel good that’s really all that matters.” Red lip? No problem, wear it! Deep burgundy lip? Do it. That’s been my motto and I have to say, it’s been refreshing.

 Berries

Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Mauve It Over is probably the lipstick I’ve had the longest out all of these picks. It’s a really pretty deep mauve plum color. I love to dab it on and blend out for a nice berry stain or full on with L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss in Really Rosé layered on top. Fresh Sugar Berry has been an everyday staple in my bag lately. I used to be obsessed over the Rose color but ever since I’ve tried this, it’s my new favorite. It’s one of those apply it and go colors – hassle free. My newest purchase is Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in Parisian, this specific product is so nice for longevity. It’s definitely on the more dark burgundy color spectrum but not on the vampy side of things. Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick in Menace is gorgeous. This is more on the vampy side but so flattering and goes perfectly with a natural eye and a big fluffy white scarf.

Reds

A little while back Revlon released a collection of older discontinued lipsticks ranging back to the 50s, 80s and so on. I snatched up Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fifth Avenue Red and I’ve gotta say, color-wise, it’s probably one of the most flattering reds in my collection. Last and saved last for a reason, Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw. Oh. My. Word. Absolutely stunning classic red color. It’s super long-lasting meaning I tried to wipe it off with a tissue and nothing budged. Nothing. It stays put. The doe foot applicator is perfect for shaping the lips and the color dries to a nice matte finish. I only have one other matte red in my collection and this one takes the cake by far. I have got to try some of the other colors in this line. Points to Kat Von D!
So, after the hoards of products mentioned (what can I say I’m a bit of a lip product junkie) that concludes all of the colors I have been reaching for and highly recommend for this time of year.

This vs That: Cleansing Oils & Facial Wipes

Taking off your makeup. Many stand by their own technique. Today I am here to give you my two cents.

Ah facial wipes, they’ve accumulated such a huge following haven’t they? I will admit to owning two packs of facial wipes, both by Ole Henriksen (Grease Relief & The Clean Truth), however I hardly use them if I’m honest. I bought them before my trip to Korea thinking I’d use them more whilst traveling but nope, my cleansing balm was more loved. Wipes are handy to have for workouts or in a pinch but I find them very dehydrating. Cleansing balms and oils, on the other hand, are a saving grace. All the dirt and grime of the day washes off leaving your skin hydrated and completely makeup free – lovely. I always follow up with my actual cleanser after but the cleansing oils are what take the cake. I know, if you have oily or breakout-prone skin you’re probably ready to scroll on but hear me out first! In high school I had more oily skin as opposed to my now combo skin and I avoided oils like the plague for the longest time until just a few years ago. It’s life changing. Most of the time, when people have oily skin, they try to dry out their skin as much as possible. It then tries to compensate for the loss of oil and thus you’re left with an even worse mess than when you began. When you use cleansing oils and facial oils, it hydrates and balances things out. Try it out and see if it makes a difference. If you’re washing all of the cleansing oil off properly there really shouldn’t be a problem. As for actual facial oils, find one that suits you and give it a go! I can’t live without those either.

I should note that I’m no expert so if you want more skincare advice from an actual professional, check out Caroline Hirons! Her blog is awesome if you’re wanting to know more about skincare.

That Time of Year

As I write this, I feel this sense of utter excitement. October has come and gone and now the holidays awaits us. It’s Autumn. The air is a little more crisp. The clothes are a little more cozy. Hot tea and cider become daily staples. The smell of freshly baked pies, cookies, and homemade soups fill the house as the fireplace crackles. Sometimes, I find myself standing outside just to breath in the air, feel the chill on my nose, and watch as every breath produces a cloud of frost. This is my favorite time of year, if you haven’t guessed. I watch countless movies about love, family, and of course, Santa Claus (or Father Christmas for others.) The thick fur blankets come out from hiding and slippers with fuzzy socks are worn. Present planning, buying, and wrapping all have a tight deadline. Lights twinkle everywhere from the neighborhood, to the shops, to your own Christmas tree. I like staying up late leaving nothing but the tree lights on just to watch them reflect on everything around me. It’s such an enchanting time of year. Welcome, holiday season, I’ve missed you quite a lot.
